My honest review of Beauty Counter
I recently was given the opportunity to try out some Beauty Counter products. I've been using non-toxic makeup and skin care for years, and had heard plenty about Beauty Counter. Yet, I didn't try any of their products until now.
Basics about Beauty Counter:
Their Mission is "To get safer products into the hands of everyone". The founder of Beauty Counter noticed that "there are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today" and that Europe has banned a lot of those chemicals from being used in products, but the US hasn't banned any. Beauty Counter feels that is unacceptable (as do I), so they took it into their own hands to make toxin free products that work well.
Here's a video from Beauty Counter's website that explains more about their mission to keep our skin care safe.
I know a lot of people hesitate when switching their makeup or skin care because we feel like it's hard to find products that "work" for us. I used to be (and still kind of am) that person too. So let me tell you...Beauty Counter exceeded all my expectations! I still have many products to try, but I'll list the products I received, tried and now love!
Nourishing Cream Cleanser. This cleanser is super gentle. It doesn't get sudsy like a lot of commercial cleansers. It has ingredients like Coconut Oil, Lavender extract, Geranium extract, Green Tea extract and Almond Oil...just to name a few. It removed my makeup, but didn't dry my skin out AT ALL or leave it feeling tight.
Nourishing Cream Exfoliator. This is my favorite skin care product by Beauty Counter of the products I tried. Most exfoliator's I've used are super abrasive and actually leave small scratches on my skin. This exfoliator if very gentle, but effective! It is so gentle that I let my 5 year old use it when she asked if she could. My face feels super soft after using it. This is now a must-have for me!
Nourishing Day Cream. This lotion is very lightweight and it didn't leave my fave feeling oily or tight. It was perfectly hydrating! It ' contains a mix of organic coconut oil, safflower oil, and aloe to provide nourishing hydration, plus antioxidant-rich acai to protect against dry skin'. One drop goes a long way too! So one bottle of this lotion will last for a while, especially because it's a lotion meant to put on in the morning. There's another lotion for the night time.
Nourishing Night Cream. This lotion had the same lightweight non-greasy feel as the Day Cream. 'Organic coconut oil and aloe hydrate while geranium and green tea protect against dryness'. It nourishes your skin while you sleep.
Lengthening Mascara. Per the Beauty Counter website, "Our breakthrough mascara delivers dramatic length and definition, plus the confidence of safer and cleaner beauty provided by our unparalleled Ingredient Selection Process. With organic oils and shea butter, it conditions lashes while you wear it. The easy-control precision brush ensures clean application without smudging, clumping, or flaking.
Women aged 26-59 experienced the following:
- 94% reported defined and lengthened lashes
- 97% reported mascara was easily buildable
- 94% reported mascara did not clump on lashes
- 94% reported mascara gave lashes ultimate definition
- 91% reported would refer mascara to a friend"
I love this mascara! It does make my lashes look longer and they look more nourished even when I'm not wearing it. The only thing to be aware of is that it may be a little more difficult than traditional mascara to take off, but you just have to use coconut oil (or another oil based cleaner/makeup remover) and it comes off very easily!
Sheer Lipstick. I would like to start off by saying that I DO NOT wear lipstick. I am a lip balm wearer. I have never met a lipstick that I liked and I've tried lots! This also goes for lip gloss; they're goopy and get everywhere or come off quickly. Plus conventional lipsticks and lip glosses are filled with a bunch of toxic ingredients that they just shouldn't go right on our mouth anyway! Now onto my thoughts on the Beauty Counter Sheer Lipstick...I love it!!! I was sent the color Petal. It's a very light pink color that I'm comfortable wearing anywhere and I now have to hide from my 5 year old daughter. It's very moisturizing and I can easily wear that without any lip balm! It has no synthetic fragrance, but they use 'vanilla planifolia' in it and it smells light and fresh. This is definitely a staple in my makeup now!
Super-Duper Clean Kids Body Wash. I like that this body wash comes in a pumpable bottle so that my daughter can easily get it by herself. She's 5 going on 15 and wants to do everything by herself anyway. I like that it has no dangerous ingredients and I feel 100% comfortable letting her put that on her skin. Did you know that what we put on our skin starts to absorb within 30 seconds? And so many skin care products contain carcinogens and endocrine disruptors so skin care is SUPER important!
My daughter likes the scent and that she can easily get it on her own too. She has told me that she mixes the body wash and the shampoo together and just washes hair and body with it, and that NO ONE else can use her soap and shampoo....whatever :)
Nice Do Kids Shampoo. I love this shampoo for all the same reasons as the body wash. It 'contains a mix of broccoli, carrot root, and strawberry extracts for a gluten- and nut-free cleansing formula that leaves hair shiny and soft. Bonus? Hints of citrus oils and vanilla extract give the shampoo a creamy orange-vanilla swirl scent that kids will love'. My daughter loves the smell of this one too. I have a feeling the kids body wash and shampoo will be a routine purchase for me as well.
I'm a no BS kind of person and if I didn't like any one of these products, I would have said that. I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to test these products! I'm not affiliated with or a representative of Beauty Counter, but I am a customer now!
