How being a Germaphobe is making your family sick
I had the opportunity to guest post over at The Rad Mommy. Of course, I wanted to write a post that a lot of moms could relate too. So I thought about myself when I was a new mom and a lot of my mom friends. One thing I noticed A LOT of us have in common is that we're terrified of germs!!
We're taught that germs are the enemy and we need to do everything we can to keep them away from our kids. Having sick kids is no fun!!
I feel like I was a slight germaphobe for a long time. Then, I went into nursing school where it was drilled into us to kill germs. The cleaner we are, the less likely we are to get sick....wash your hands...use hand sanitizer....repeat. Having my daughter pushed me over the germaphobe edge! I wanted nothing more than to protect her from anything bad.
Can you relate? BUT then I learned the truth. Germs are necessary. We actually have more bacterial cells in our bodies and on our skin than we have human cells! Weird right? I learned about The Hygiene Hypothesis and that we get sick because of our poor lifestyle choices.
